Tennessee Repertory Theatre opens its 25th anniversary season with Steel Magnolias. The play is filled with hilarious repartee, humorously revealing verbal collisions, and a touch of sadness. As the ladies of Chinquapin Parish come face to face with trying times, they draw on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality that makes them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

This classic of the American theatre is David Mamet at his best. 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of this Pulitzer Prize-winning drama. This scalding comedy-drama took Broadway and London by storm in 1984. Rene Copeland, director, says “It’s Mamet, so while it delves into the dark side of human nature it does so with dark humor. The dialogue is both scathing (adult language alert) and very witty. It’s an actor’s dream play, so if you especially enjoy terrific, taut, intense acting, you won’t want to miss this.”
The Goat or, Who is Sylvia? 1/31/08-2/16/08
“This play by Edward Albee is truly a brilliant piece of American theatre,” says Rene Copeland, Producing Artistic Director for Tennessee Rep. Copeland will be directing the production. A tale of a married, middle-aged architect whose life crumbles when he falls in love with a goat. The Goat or, Who Is Sylvia? focuses on where the limits of a civilized society are. By showing this family in crisis, Albee challenges audience members to question their own moral standards in the face of other social taboos.
3 Days of Rain 10/19/06-11/04/06
The Rep opens its season with this Pulitzer Prize finalist play - recently on Broadway with Julia Roberts - a funny and touching story centering on a brother, his sister, and their childhood friend who meet in 1995 to divide the legacy of their late fathers, partners in a renowned architecture firm. In an effort to bring some peace to their own lives, the three search for clues that might explain what had gone on between their fathers, and the woman in their lives, decades before. The second act shifts to the mid-60s, with the same three actors portraying the previous generation. Both a family drama and a mystery, this play is a bittersweet elegy about beautiful buildings, unspeakable secrets, and family fault lines.
